David Lewis is a Consultant Vascular Surgeon at Aneurin Bevan University Health Board. His previous experience as a Consultant Vascular Surgeon was at The Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh (2011-2016) and as A/Professor and Consultant Vascular Surgeon at the University of Otago, Christchurch School of Medicine, New Zealand (2004-2011).
David has in excess of 25 years of experience caring for and treating patients with varicose veins and other vascular problems. He is fully credentialed in both open and endovascular procedures and submits all his operative data to The National Vascular Registry. He has appeared on the BBC One Show, has featured in The Daily Mail and has been interviewed on National Radio.
David has taught many colleagues to perform Endothermal Ablation of Varicose Veins (Endovenous Laser & Radiofrequency Ablation) and Ultrasound Guided Injection Foam Sclerotherapy (UGS). He has performed many hundreds of varicose vein procedures.
In New Zealand David developed a keen interest in Quality Improvement and Quality Assurance in Vascular Surgical practice serving on the Clinical Board and the Credentialing Committee of The Canterbury District Health Board. He was a founding Director of the successful Vascular Private Practice; Christchurch Vascular Group.
David has a strong interest and track record in vascular surgical education and training and is an accredited trainer with the GMC. He has been a course convenor and faculty member on many vascular surgical training courses in the UK, Europe and Australasia. He sat on The Advisory Board of The Academy of Surgical Educators at The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and was the QA Lead for the Vascular Speciality Advisory Committee to The Joint Committee on Surgical Training.
David’s primary medical degree (MB ChB 1991) and Doctorate (MD 2001) were awarded by The University of Bristol. He completed his specialist training in the Southwest of England and spent a fellowship year at The Royal Northshore Hospital in Sydney. David became a Fellow of The Royal College of Surgeons of England (FRCS) in 1996 and passed the Intercollegiate Exam in 2004. He became a Fellow of The European Board of Vascular Surgery (EBSQvasc) in 2005 and a Fellow of The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (vascular) (FRACSvasc) in 2008.
Education and Training
Mr Lewis has committed to working at Veincentre Cardiff every Wednesday.
If you book an initial consultation with Mr Lewis in Veincentre Cardiff, all your future appointments will be with Mr Lewis in Cardiff.
Occasionally Mr Lewis may open up a list on another day, especially during our busy periods.
If you are unable to attend one of Mr Lewis’ dates and hence wish to switch consultants, you will need to attend and pay for a new consultation with the other consultant prior to any treatment being undertaken. Please take care when choosing which consultant/ date to book.
Please note that due to holidays Mr Lewis may not be available every week.
