Dr David Wells is a Consultant Vascular and Interventional Radiologist at Royal Stoke University Hospital and has held roles as trauma lead, research lead and most recently clinical lead for Interventional Radiology. He qualified in 1995 from Dundee University medical school and began his Consultant career in 2005.
David has been fortunate to be at the forefront of many of the leading trials in the UK including the ROPE registry for prostate artery embolization and the FEMME trial comparing Fibroid embolization with myomectomy, the long term results of which were published in The Lancet. He was the first research lead in Radiology at UHNM which brought in over 100 studies and trials involving Imaging.
During his career David has set up services in day case radial access fibroid embolisation for women with heavy menstrual bleeding and prostate embolization for men with symptomatic prostates. He is a member of the BSIR liaison which advises NICE on endovascular procedures and has produced 18 peer review publications, two book chapters as well as presenting both nationally and internationally.
Outside work David has three children and enjoys mountain biking, skiing and travel. His adventures have taken him to some amazing places summiting Kilimanjaro in Africa, Mount Rainier in the USA and many 4000m peaks in the alps including Mont Blanc.

Dr Wells will be holding clinics at Veincentre Stoke on a Tuesday. If you see Dr Wells for a consultation in Stoke, your future appointments will be with Dr Wells in Stoke throughout your treatment journey. Therefore, please be aware that if you decide to attend the Stoke clinic with Dr Wells for treatment, this will take place on a Tuesday (as well as all future follow-up appointments).
Dr Wells may open a clinic list on a different day, usually during busy periods, however we can’t guarantee that he will have appointment dates available on any other day than a Tuesday, even if a previous appointment was on a different day. If you cannot make Dr Wells’ dates and wish to switch to a different consultant, you will need to attend and pay for a new consultation prior to having any treatment done. Please take care when deciding which consultant and date to book.
