Vein Treatment at Veincentre Liverpool

At Veincentre Liverpool, we treat varicose veins, thread veins (spider veins), leg ulcers and thread veins on the face. Your treatment journey for vein conditions in the legs will start with a consultation with one of our experienced consultants, where a duplex ultrasound scan will be performed to determine whether there is an underlying cause to your vein problems (varicose veins), or whether it is just cosmetic (thread veins). The consultant will then explain to you the results of the scan and talk you through a tailored treatment plan.

Treatment for Varicose Veins

  • Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLA) – this is the Gold Standard treatment used to treat the underlying condition of varicose veins. The EVLA procedure involves using an ultrasound guided laser fibre which is inserted into the vein that needs destroying. Then, heat is delivered, and the laser fibre is slowly pulled along the length of the vein, killing the vein in the process. The dead vein is then slowly absorbed by your body and healthy blood flow is restored to your legs.
  • Foam Sclerotherapy – This is a treatment used in the removal of both varicose veins and thread veins, though is mostly used as a secondary treatment following EVLA. Foam sclerotherapy involves injecting a diluted drug directly into varicose veins. The drug’s mixed with foam and air. The foam then displaces the blood in the veins and the drug destroys the cells in the vein lining causing treated veins shrivel up after the treatment. Your body then breaks down and absorbs the dead tissue naturally.

Treatment for Thread Veins (Spider Veins)

  • Microsclerotherapy – the most effective and most common form of thread vein treatment. During the procedure, a diluted drug, in the form of a sclerosant is injected into the veins. The sclerosant then causes localised damage to the inner lining of the vein, causing the thread vein to collapse. The inner lining of the vein then becomes thickened, sealing off the vein so that blood can no longer flow through it and the blood is redirected to deeper veins.

Treatment for Face Veins (Facial Thread Veins)

Your face vein treatment journey will begin with a free consultation, where polarised light will be used to assess the area of concern, followed by treatment at the same appointment.

  • Thermavein (Thermocoagulation) – the Gold standard treatment for facial thread vein removal. Thermocoagulation works by sealing the vein closed, leading to the permanent destruction of the tiny, thin-walled veins. Heat is then applied using microwave energy at the end of a minuscule needle, which just pricks the very surface of the skin that covers the vein.
Heat is introduced every few millimetres along the vein, through the small needle and the vein instantly disappears.
