Horse-loving mum, Katie, halts hobby due to painful varicose veins.
Katie Boon, aged 30 from Exeter started suffering from painful varicose veins in her left leg when she was pregnant with her daughter and they seemed to get worse during her second pregnancy with her son.
Speaking about the pain, Katie remembers that “they were so painful I would often drop to the floor in agony and burst into tears. I love doing exercise and horse riding with my daughter but my varicose veins would often stop me in my tracks.”
It was only when Katie told her husband Michael that she was worried her painful leg would ruin their upcoming holiday that they decided to do something about it.
“Michael just turned to me one day and said, ‘You need to just get this done and do something about it,’ and I’m so glad that he did, as it gave me the impetus to book in at Veincentre,” said Katie.
Katie received treatment at Veincentre Exeter. Her consultant was Dr Guinness and she had EVLA and foam sclerotherapy on one leg, followed by follow-up where she had further sclerotherapy.
Katie had an initial telephone conversation with the patient advisory team then a face -to-face consultation with Dr Guinness. Each appointment took no more than 90 minutes and she was able to go back to work the next day, so she didn’t need to take time off to rest.
“My leg is so fantastic now, I’m pain free and just want to tell everyone about it. I had awful pain for 10 years and now I don’t even need to give my leg a second thought. Horse riding is something I love to do with my daughter and now we can do it as often as we like and I’m over the moon.”
