Varicose veins are a common problem, affecting up to 1 in 3 adults in their lifetime. They are usually a sign of an underlying venous insufficiency.
Thread veins can appear anywhere on the body but are mostly evidenced on the legs and face. They are more common than varicose veins, affecting up to 80% of adults.
Leg ulcers appear as broken skin in the lower leg or feet. We have been successfully treating venous leg ulcers for over 20 years.

David was back in the gym the day after his treatment at Veincentre.
Meet Dave Parker, 51 from Stoke on Trent who loves going for long walks in the countryside with his wife and to the gym three times a week with his daughter and her boyfriend. However, the aching numbness that he felt in his leg was setting him back so he decided he should get his leg checked out by his doctor.
After seeing his GP, Dave was advised that the only option available to him was to go private and get expert varicose veins treatment. Dave said, “I can’t thank Veincentre enough. The whole service, from my initial phone call, consultation and follow-up has been 10/10.”
David had an initial telephone conversation with the patient advisory team, who answered any questions he had prior to booking an appointment. He then had a face-to-face consultation with Dr Wells at the Veincentre clinic in Stoke, where a colour duplex ultrasound scan was performed.
When Dave had his scan, it revealed faulty valves in one of the veins in his leg, which explains why he was suffering with symptoms like tiredness of the leg and discomfort.
Dr Wells discussed the results of the scan with Dave there and then, spoke about the treatment options and created a treatment plan for him.
David attended the clinic for treatment and had EVLA and foam sclerotherapy on one leg, and then came back for a follow-up appointment 6 weeks later, where he had a further session of foam sclerotherapy.
“I’m on my feet all day at work as I work in a steel factory where we make security doors. I noticed that my varicose veins were getting more prominent and I’m so glad I went to get them checked out.”
“I remember my daughter’s face when she saw me at the gym and how shocked she was at the improvement after I’d been to Veincentre. She couldn’t believe how much better my leg looked without the horrible big thick veins popping out. I’m just so pleased that the pain has gone and I can now continue enjoying an active lifestyle without worrying about my aching leg.”
Exercise is always encouraged after treatment, and Dave was only too happy to go back to the gym the very next day.
It is important to stay active following treatment to keep your legs moving, particularly in the first week after treatment when wearing the compression stockings. There are only a few restrictions after treatment, such as no weightlifting for 4 weeks, no swimming for the first week and no horse riding for 4 weeks, but exercises such as walking and running are great ways of keeping active. However, it is important to listen to your body when exercising post treatment, to ensure you don’t push yourself too far.
